Active - hiking

The famous Rennsteig starts here on Eisenach territory, the UNESCO World Heritage natural site Hainich is within reach and the hiking area between Wartburg Castle and the Altensteiner Landscape Garden is one of the most beautiful by far. Canyons, beech forests and wonderful views arouse wanderlust in any season.

The first stage of the most famous German hiking trail starts in Hörschel. After about 15 km the hiker can reach Eisenach via the wildly romantic Dragon Gorge, or hike further on, to the Inselsberg.
