Unique: the Thuringian Museum: The Church of Dominician or Prediger (Preacher)

A unique atmosphere reigns in the almost 800-year-old walls and vaults of the "Predigerkirche" - Eisenach Dominician Church. In the former monastery church, an exhibition of sacred carved sculptures bears touching witness to the faith and piety of the people of the Middle Ages.

In the 13th century, the Preacher Church in honour of Saint Elizabeth was built as part of a Dominican monastery. In the 16th century, the living and working quarters of the monks housed the Latin school, later the Martin Luther Grammar School.

The church has been part of the Thuringian Museum of Eisenach for over 100 years. In its ceremonial rooms - especially in the old crypt - the largest collection of medieval carving art in Thuringia is on display in a fashionably designed exhibition. Colourfully designed figures of saints, altars, tombs, liturgical equipment and sculptures offer an insight into the world of faith and life of the people in the Middle Ages.
